Pokemon Card Set Symbols

Use this handy guide to look up Pokemon card set symbols, set names, and set years.

The most common way to organize Pokemon cards is by set. To identify the set, look for a little symbol at the bottom of the card, next to the card number. There are a bunch of these set symbols… 5-6 sets are released every year, each with a different set symbol, and they’ve been printing cards since 1999!

The following table is a complete list of Pokemon card sets, sorted by date… the newest sets are at the top… the oldest are at the bottom. If I missed something, let me know if the comments! I want this to be THE DEFINITIVE GUIDE FOR POKEMON CARD SETS!

Pokemon GO Set List

The Pokemon GO set contains 88 cards: 78 in the base set, plus 10 secret rare cards. Check out the complete set list!

Pokemon GO is a special expansion set that is a collaboration between the mobile online Pokemon GO game and the offline Pokemon card game. It’s a small set with only 88 cards total… 78 in the base set plus 10 secret rare cards.

Cards in this set are unique in that they contain the copyright of Niantic logo (creator of Pokemon GO app) in addition to the standard Pokemon copyrights. Some cards in the set also appear sketchy, as if colored pencils were used, giving them a unique look.

Astral Radiance Set List

The Astral Radiance set contains 246 total cards: 189 in the base set, 27 secret rare, and 30 Trainer Gallery cards. Check out the complete set list!

Pokemon Astral Radiance is the 10th expansion set in the Sword & Shield Series. The set contains 246 cards: 189 in the base set, 27 secret rare cards, and 30 Trainer Gallery cards. Astral Radiance continues the VSTAR mechanic introduced in the previous set – Brilliant Stars… but adds yet another mechanic with the introduction of Radiant Pokemon. Radiant Pokemon are basic Pokemon with powerful attacks and abilities. Because of this, players are only allowed 1 Radiant Pokemon in their deck.

This set also includes a 30 card Trainer Gallery subset, similar to the Brilliant Stars set. The cards are numbered starting with TG, for example, TG01/TG30, TG02/TG30, etc. There are no secret rare cards in the Trainer Gallery subset. All the cards in the Trainer Gallery depict a trainer and a Pokemon in their full art glory.

Brilliant Stars Set List

Pokemon Brilliant Stars is the 9th expansion set in the Sword & Shield Series. The set contains 216 cards: 172 in the base set, 14 secret rare cards, and 30 Trainer Gallery cards. Brilliant Stars is the first set to introduce the VSTAR mechanic to the game… giving Pokemon special VSTAR powers.

The Trainer Gallery is a subset of the Brilliant Stars set. It contains 30 cards that are numbered starting with TG, for example, TG01/TG30, TG02/TG30, etc. There are no secret rare cards in the Trainer Gallery subset. Each full art card in this subset contains a Pokemon with their Trainer, similar to cards in the Cosmic Eclipse expansion set.

Fusion Strike Set List

The Fusion Strike set contains 284 cards; including many new Fusion Strike, Pokemon V, VMAX, and secret rare cards. Check out the complete set list!

Pokemon Fusion Strike is the 8th expansion set in the Sword & Shield Series. There are 284 cards in the set… 264 cards in the base set, plus 20 secret rare cards. This set introduces “Fusion Strike” cards, identified by the graphical label overtop the card art. This new game mechanic allows players to combine cards to create powerful new attacks. In addition to the new Fusion Strike cards, this set contains the new Single Strike and Rapid Strike cards, powerful V and VMAX, and many cool trainer and secret rare cards.

Evolving Skies Set List

The Pokemon Evolving Skies set contains 237 cards, including many valuable V, VMAX, and secret rare holo cards. Check out the complete Evolving Skies set list!

Pokemon Evolving Skies is the 7th expansion set in the Sword & Shield Series. This set contains 203 cards in the base set, and 34 secret rare cards, for a total of 237. There are some very collectible cards in this set… loads of V, VMAX, and Dragon Type Pokemon… many of which are valuable!
