The Pokemon Neo Revelation set was released in September 2001 and contains 66 cards… 64 in the base set, plus 2 secret shining rare cards. Neo Revelation is the first set to feature Shining Pokemon… rare and valuable cards with the special ability to use multiple energy types.

Southern Islands

The Pokemon Southern Islands set was released July 2001… the English version anyway… the Japanese version was released 2 years earlier in July of 1999. The English cards have the Neo design so they get lumped in with the Neo Series… but this is an odd set with only 18 cards. The set is centered around two islands: Rainbow Island and Tropical Island. None of the cards have a rarity symbol… the Japanese set doesn’t even have card numbers!

Neo Genesis Set List

The Pokemon Neo Genesis set was released in December 2000 and contains 111 cards. This set was the first to contain Darkness and Metal card types. The first 19 cards in Neo Genesis are rare holofoil cards and tend to be the most valuable cards in the set.

Gym Challenge Set List

The Pokemon Gym Challenge set was released in October 2000 and contains 132 cards. This set differs from the Japanese release in several interesting ways… it doesn’t feature “Imakuni?’s Doduo” named after a Japanese singer, or “_____’s Chasney” because a blank named Pokemon was more of a joke, not a seriuous card for tournament play. The English release also contained revised artwork for “Misty’s Tears”, a trainer card that showed a “Naked” Misty in the Japanese release.
