The Japanese Topsun set is considered the first Pokemon set ever printed! Although the copyright printed on these cards says “@copy 1995” they were actually printed in 1997 by Top-Seika, a Japanese media and publishing company. The cards were released in packs containing 2 Pokemon cards and 2 sticks of gum. There were several print runs of these cards. Some of early print runs have missing card numbers, making them more valuable than later print runs. The first print run had a blue back (more valuable), later print runs had a green back.

The Sun & Moon Hidden Fates expansion set was released on August September 23, 2019. This set is unique in that it contains a Shiny Vault subset containing all Shiny Pokemon cards. There are only 69 cards in the Hidden Fates set… 68 in the base set plus 1 secret “Rare Rainbow” card. Unlike cards in the Shiny Vault subset, cards from the Hidden Fates base set have their own set symbol.

The Shiny Vault subset contains 94 cards, all of which are Shiny Pokemon, Shiny Pokemon GX, Ultra Rare, or Secret Rare cards that are reprints from previous sets. Cards from the Shiny Vault set do not have their own set symbol, but rather the symbol from their original expansion set. The way you identify Shiny Vault cards is by their numbering… they’ll have a number like “SV44”. All the cards in the Shiny Vault expansion set have a yellow alternate “A” symbol which designates that the card is a reprint from a previous expansion set.

As a sub-set it only contains 18 cards and no secret rares.
