The Pokemon Southern Islands set was released July 2001… the English version anyway… the Japanese version was released 2 years earlier in July of 1999. The English cards have the Neo design so they get lumped in with the Neo Series… but this is an odd set with only 18 cards. The set is centered around two islands: Rainbow Island and Tropical Island. None of the cards have a rarity symbol… the Japanese set doesn’t even have card numbers!
Pokemon Sourthern Islands cards were sold in promo folders and box sets. In addition to booster packs these sets came with postcards that are also worth looking up.
